Thailand Built a Colossal Coin in Honor of H.M. the King
in Royal Flora Expo in Thailand
Chiang Mai, Thailand-November 12, 2006
“Coin for the King” is a gigantic coin sculpture located in the Homage Garden area of Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2006 (November 1, 06 – January 31, 2007, Chiang Mai, Thailand,) for Thai people to pay respect to His Majesty King of Thailand. Enlarged from one of the five auspicious collections of coins, Police General Salang Boonnaak Foundation created this special coin under His Majesty’s permission with the size of 1.99 meters diameters.
The coin is built from bronze of 1 ton weight. The front of the coin is a portrait of His Majesty the King, and the back is an image of the Royal Rain Project (an artificial rain project created by His Majesty the King.)
The coin is placed on top of an 8-ton crystal base consisting of many layers with waterfall flowing from the top down. This construction together with fountain base and round-walkway is 9.90 meters in diameter. This crystal base, largest ever made, is equipped with a Fiber Optic lighting system that changes its colors automatically.
